Ski Biking in Colorado: Resorts, Rentals and the Best Dive Bars in Ski Country

Ski Biking in Colorado: Resorts, Rentals and the Best Dive Bars in Ski Country

By Rob Aseltine. Updated September 2026.

Twenty-five resorts. More than twenty rental shops. Delivery vans idling in slopeside lots at 8:45 in the morning. Colorado is the busiest ski bike state in the country.

I've taught at Winter Park, Beaver Creek and Aspen Snowmass, worked with the rental operators who keep this state rolling, and hosted more than a few events along the I-70 corridor. Winter park or Aspen Snowmass is really where you want to begin your ski biking adventure, from guided Tours to expansive wide open terrain. Those resorts are high on my list of the best places to ride in the country.

The Lay of the Land

Summit County and I-70

  • Breckenridge. Open, leash required. An ASA member reported in 2022 that ski bikes were no longer allowed on the T-bar.

  • Keystone. Allowed under the resort's policy, leash required.

  • Copper Mountain. Open. No homemade bikes, leash required.

  • Arapahoe Basin. ASA's listing says riders need foot skis, or they're treated as foot passengers and limited to certain lifts. That affects Type III riders, so confirm with the Basin before you drive up.

  • Echo Mountain. Open, no homemade bikes, and there's night riding.

  • Eldora. Open, lift leash required.

  • Winter Park Resort. Open, with a resort-run ski bike program. No board bikes and no terrain park. There is no other guided experience like the one at Winter Park. It sells out every season.

  • Granby Ranch. Restricted. Bikes need restraint devices, and the rules cover detachable lifts.

Vail Valley

  • Vail. All three ski bike types are allowed.

  • Beaver Creek. Open, leash required. One of the best powder days I've ever experienced.

Aspen Snowmass

Steamboat

Southwest Colorado and the Western Slope

Front Range and the Outliers

  • Hoedown Hill (Windsor). Open. You ride on and off the lift without it slowing, and the resort rents only SNO-GOs.

  • Cuchara Mountain Park. Snowcat access only. Ski bikers welcome.

  • Wolf Creek. Adaptive riders only. Call the main line two weeks ahead.

Where's the Best Place to Ride in Colorado?

I've clocked hundreds of laps in Colorado and the day that stands out over and over again was at Aspen Snowmass. The grade is perfect for ski bikes and the powder is dry and fluffy. I had the chance to ride with Jack who runs the local shop and he put together a more comprehensive guide for ski biking in Colorado.

Who Rents Ski Bikes in Colorado

Colorado has enough shops to sort by bike type. If you've never ridden, go three-ski. If you ride a full-suspension mountain bike and want a challenge, Type II is a blast. Here's how the three types compare.

Three-ski (SNO-GO)

Type II

  • Summit SkiBike (Frisco). Lenz bikes at $150 a day. Delivery is $100 in Summit County, $25 more for Eagle County, $50 more for Grand County.

  • Clear Creek Ski Bikes (Empire). Lenz bikes at $150 a day. First-bike delivery is $150 within an hour of Empire.

  • Colorado Ski Bikes (Littleton). SkiByk bikes from $95 on sale, $120 regular.

  • 719 Ski Bike (Colorado Springs). SkiByk rental partner covering most of the state.

  • Rocky Mountain Ski Bikes (Vail). Delivery-based, serving Vail and Beaver Creek.

  • Skibike Durango. Lenz and SkiByk bikes. Purgatory delivery is $40.

Type I

After the Lifts Stop

  • The Last Dollar Saloon (Telluride). Pouring since 1978 in a building from the late 1800s. SnowBrains once named it the best skier dive bar in the world. Hit the rooftop on a sunny afternoon.

  • New Sheridan Historic Bar (Telluride). Open since 1895, with the original mahogany, $5 Jack shots, and pool until 2 a.m.

  • Gold Pan Saloon (Breckenridge). Pouring since 1879. Whiskey-soaked and old school.

  • Motherloaded Tavern (Breckenridge). Meatloaf mac and cheese, house-infused spirits, and tabletop s'mores.

  • TBar (Breckenridge). At the base of Peak 8 for the first round.

  • Woody Creek Tavern (outside Aspen). Hunter S. Thompson's old haunt, open since 1980 and still plastered in Polaroids. It's cash only, with an ATM on site.

  • J-Bar at Hotel Jerome (Aspen). Old West saloon energy and one of the best burgers in town. Stay upstairs if the budget allows.

  • Kochevar's Saloon (Crested Butte). A mining-era saloon that supposedly once held Butch Cassidy's gun.

  • TBar (Steamboat). A self-described five-star dive in a former ski patrol trailer. Get the chorizo mac.

  • Garfinkel's (Vail). Cheap beer, a big deck, and a shot wheel you'll regret.

  • The Foundry Cinema and Bowl (Winter Park). Bowling, movies and a full bar for when the legs are done.
